As one of our "Jordan Today" activities we got to visit a local video game organization called Na3m Games. Personally, I am hardly into video games... Actually not at all. But this was way more than just video games. First of all, the guy who created Na3m Games is Saudi Arabian royalty which is pretty cool (although apparently theres loads of them). Na3m Games makes iPhone apps such as Run Camel Run (which is pretty fun), but they also are working on sending a message to youth who are using these games. It was definitely interesting to see a more techy/geeky/modern side of the people of Amman. The Na3m office was so hip and modern and the people working there were incredibly cool. The idea behind Na3m games is equally interesting... literally (na3m) means yes in arabic. This shows forward thinking, accepting individuals passions no matter how obscure, and thinking outside of the box. Additionally, it was very cool to hear about their upcoming game which we got to test out and see designs for. It is called Saudi Girl Revolution... which in the name itself is pretty controversial. The people of Na3m games are hoping to use the accessibility and popularity of technology through games to reshape the way that Saudis & other Arabs in the region change their views on issues in the area, and in particular women. The idea of Saudi Girl Revolution is that an eclectic group of Saudi girls with varying issues that are seen poorly upon in their country escape from a government run dystopia camp and run to go free their villages from dystopia. Well yes, quite controversial... Na3m Games apparently hopes to get the game banned (more publicity). Anyhow, it was interesting to hear how they hope to use technology for a greater message and especially cool to get to sign their wall at the end of the day!
